Byron V. Kanaley
This award was first presented in 1927 and is the most prestigious honor bestowed upon student-athletes. Byron V. Kanaley, a former member of the Irish baseball team for whom this award is named, graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1904. Kanaley led a successful banking career in Chicago and served as a lay trustee of the University until his death in 1960.
